About this class

Wilderness has fascinated us since time immemorial. Starting a fire, making Tinder, building a camp, carving a spoon — these and other techniques are the basics of wilderness knowledge. The so-called bushcrafters have brought these techniques to perfection. They build almost everything themselves: from shelters to kitchen utensils, tools, carrying devices to entire forest camps.

In contrast to survival, where the focus is on surviving in an involuntary emergency situation, bushcrafting focuses more on voluntarily experiencing nature, enjoying and slowing down.

On this day, you will learn the most important wilderness & bushcraft techniques in practice. You will be able to light a fire without a lighter or matches, make essential objects yourself from natural materials and will also receive valuable know-how for your next trip, such as which survival knots are really useful and how to make the best Tinder in the world yourself.

We end the day with delicious stick bread around the campfire. As a farewell, you will receive a waterproof box as the basis for your own Bushcraft fire set.

What you’ll do in the class

Contents of Wildniswissen Kompakt

  • Starting a fire with fire starter and Viking batting iron
  • Recognize, use, and make Tinder yourself
  • Set up fireplaces
  • Equipment knowledge and care: What do I have to consider when it comes to tools, where do I buy them, how do I sharpen a knife or an axe?
  • Knotology: Important bushcraft knots and their practical application
  • Improvisation of tools & aids: We build drumsticks, string, carrying devices, digging sticks and other aids.
  • Make your own cutlery & kitchen utensils: fork, spoon, bowl
  • Build warehouse & forest furniture: bed, shelter, shelf, table, chair

You build the projects based on sketches and construction plans and under the guidance of our guides. At regular intervals, there are entertaining lessons on various relevant topics, such as knife sharpening or knotting.

You will be presented with various projects, which you will then implement alone or in a small group. You can of course take home your homemade workpieces such as spoons or carrying devices. Please note that due to time constraints, we may not be able to implement all the projects presented — instead, you can choose what you are most interested in.

  • Stick bread on a campfire at the end
