About this class
Roomlight Studio lampshade workshop:
Beautiful lampshades are difficult to find and creative minds have their very own ideas about what a finished lamp should look like anyway. That's why we show you how to make lampshades yourself so that every participant can create their own signature for their lamp. We produce drum-shaped umbrellas ranging in size from Ø 15 x h 20 cm up to ø 25 x h 25 cm. Larger sizes can also be arranged in advance. We provide a selection of papers, fabrics, films and ribbons or fringes.
The manufactured lampshades - with the retaining ring turned upwards - can either be attached to the ceiling as a pendant lamp or - with the bracket facing down - can be screwed onto the socket of a table lamp as a shade. It is best to agree beforehand what type of use the umbrella should be manufactured for.
If you want (but don't have to), you can buy a small lamp base from us. The feet that we offer are made from vintage vases from the 60s to 70s for a smaller table lamp, weighted with sand, closed with a brass plate and fitted with an E27 lamp holder.
What you’ll do in the class
If you want to equip your own lamp base, please send the dimensions and a photo before the workshop so that we can have everything you need for a suitable shade. We start the workshop with the opportunity to take a look at different sizes and formats of finished lampshades and try them out on the foot we brought along. Once the size decision has been made, it is time to select the materials. We offer a wide variety of fabrics and papers that are glued onto a special hard PVC film. After selection, the material is cut to size and glued on. We then roll the glued film onto special rings. This is followed by detailed work: Papers or fabrics must be folded inwards and pushed under the rings with a special tool. If you want, you can then reach into the box with the decorative ribbons - or attach a fringe border.
Who is the class suitable for?
The course described here is suitable for adults. Groups of up to 6 people are possible. Should an even larger group want to attend the workshop, we must move to another room. We are happy to offer courses for children in our own workshop format.
