About this class
When the largest wine-growing country in the world (¡Hola, España!) to the country with the most fascinating variety of grape varieties (Olá, Portugal!) hits, your taste buds can look forward to a real adventure trip! This is where grape varieties with tongue-twisting potential and strong red wines that have matured to perfection in oak barrels come together. Opposites? Absolutely! But it is precisely these that make Iberian wine culture so attractive — and make for exciting discoveries.
With plenty of pictures in our luggage, we travel along the Camino de Santiago, admire the rugged beauty of the Atlantic coast, explore the vast Meseta and finally end up in the Douro Valley, where port wine magic is at home.
And of course, we will answer all the questions you always wanted to know about the wines of the Iberian Peninsula:
- Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva — what's the difference?
- Why does Spain love American oak — and what does it do with the wine?
- Which wine styles are typical of Spain and Portugal?
- Alcohol-fortified wines? The underrated classics from both countries.

What you’ll do in the class
- Welcoming the participants from 6:45pm by the wine speaker
- Hearty snack before and during the seminar
- Beamer presentation with emotional images about the various wine regions of both countries
- Tasting of 12 Spanish and Portuguese quality wines (6 white, 6 red) as blind tasting, i.e. without label and price information
- Tasting using the basics of wine sensory and structured tasting techniques
- Information about growing regions, grape varieties and special features of the wines
- Lots of useful tips on food pairing, service and wine storage
- Answering questions about wine
