About this class

Dive into the world of ceramics in the light-flooded artist studio K Studio Keramik & Mal Atelier. In this inspiring environment, you can design your own ceramic objects using construction technology and have the opportunity to also paint your pieces with engobe paints.

Working with sound is relaxing, grounding and giving you a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Surrounded by art, color and form, you will experience a creative flow in which you arrive at the moment.

In this pottery course, you create your own ceramic objects and learn various construction techniques. Optionally, you can use the engobe technique to paint your pieces yourself.

From thumb technique to bead technique, we test the techniques together step by step and produce ceramic pieces. If you want, you can use creative texture and surface methods. You can freely implement your projects and ideas during the course, and we will support you in doing so. From candle holders to ceramic beads, everything is possible.

Clay-building techniques impress with the beauty of imperfection. Each hand-made ceramic is unique, and it is precisely these irregularities that make it so beautiful.

The course is led by an experienced artist who studied fine arts in England and has obtained her diploma and master student titles at the University of Arts.

Course content:

  • Introduction to various hand building techniques: thumb, plate and bead techniques
  • Individual instructions for implementing your own ideas
  • On request: use of texture and surface methods
  • On request: glazing with engobe technology

What is engobe?

Engobe is a high-quality, tinted clay slurry compound that allows you to apply individual colors and patterns to your works. It is applied to the leathery clay and provides special color effects.

What you’ll do in the class

  • After the welcome in front of the entrance and the main entrance door in front of the building, we take the lift together to the studio floor on the 4th floor.
  • Since you can only enter the building with a transponder on weekends, I ask you to arrive punctually.
  • After a brief introduction, this pottery course gives us an insight into the various construction techniques (thumb technique & bead technique). We test the techniques and produce ceramic pieces.
  • If you have individual projects, such as pearls or candle holders, I can guide you and show you examples of local ceramic works.
  • If you want to glaze your ceramics using engobe technology, we will fire them twice for you and glaze them with a transparent shine.

After approx. 3-4 weeks, your ceramics will be fired and glazed twice for you. We ask you to pick them up no later than 4 weeks after the initial notification and the collection date.

Who is the class suitable for?

The course is perfect for beginners and advanced students who want to work creatively and dive into the world of pottery in a relaxed atmosphere. No previous knowledge is required — everyone is welcome to experiment with sound and discover their own creative style.

Whether it's a team event, birthday party, bachelor party, children's birthday party or a workshop for young people and young adults — we are happy to offer individual appointments to create unforgettable experiences together. Just talk to us — we look forward to getting creative with you!

Funda is a very welcoming host who has familiarized us with the most important techniques. After that, we were able to try things out right away and created beautiful bowls, cups and our own creations. It was a very nice, interesting afternoon, which unfortunately passed much too quickly. The coffee tastes great too:)
