What you’ll do in the class

After welcome refreshments and informal introductions, participants will:

  • Discover how to cook and season sushi rice 
  • Learn how to chop and prepare delicious fillings for your rolls
  • Explore where to find the best sushi ingredients right here in Berlin
  • Practice rolling three types of classic maki-sushi: hosomaki (thin rolls), chu-maki (medium-sized rolls) and uramaki (inside-out rolls)
  • Make delicious, authentic miso soup from scratch
  • Pick up tips for beautiful presentation and serving at home
  • Enjoy the fruits of our labour with a shared meal featuring the sushi and miso soup we’ve made—plus a tasty Japanese salad as a bonus treat!

 

The main workshop language will be English, but Jem is also fluent in German and is happy to explain steps and answer questions in German if it helps.  

What is included in the class?

  • Refreshments with green tea and seasonal homemade drink
  • All equipment and ingredients for sushi and miso soup
  • Step-by-step guidance for preparing and rolling sushi
  • Shared sushi meal prepared together

What to bring to the class

You don't need to bring anything, but if you wish you can bring:

  • tapaware to take home leftovers (if there are any)
  • slippers (we take off our shoes to enter this Japanese-inspired studio, slippers are also provided)
