What is a pub quiz and how does it work?

A pub quiz is a hosted quiz night in a bar or pub where several teams compete over multiple rounds. The format originally comes from British pubs. A quiz master asks questions from categories such as general knowledge, music, film and fun facts, plus estimation questions, picture rounds or song guessing. Teams write down their answers, each round is scored, and at the end the winning team gets a prize – such as a certificate or a voucher. Teams usually have 1 to 5 players, and you order drinks and snacks at the bar as you play.

Which pub quiz formats are there?

• Classic pub quiz in a bar: Several rounds of general knowledge, music and film, often with a drink included – for example at the Riverhouse in Stuttgart with a beer or soft drink, or at the Lemondrive Bar in Würzburg with two cocktails.
• Themed quiz: Special nights focus on one topic, such as a film and TV quiz at Cologne's Turistarama arthouse cinema or a craft beer quiz with a beer tasting in Bremen.
• Hosted company pub quiz: For groups of 10 to 500 people, professional quiz masters come to your office, a bar or a venue of your choice.
• Quiz game show: Game show formats combine knowledge questions with skill and sports challenges, sometimes paired with a wine tasting.
• Quiz on the move: On the true crime quiz tour through St. Pauli in Hamburg or on puzzle city games in Dresden and Görlitz, you solve the questions on location.
• Online quiz show: Remote teams play a hosted game show via Zoom.

How much does a pub quiz cost?

Pub quiz nights cost between 6,90 € and 250,00 € and usually take about 59 minutes to 4 hours 45 minutes, depending on the experience you choose. You'll find all further details directly in the respective event descriptions.
