“Hear you guys and be told...”: this is how the night watchman roamed the city centuries ago. In Mannheim, the Guardians of the Night walked through the alleys of the historic city until 1876. In the light of the lantern, Marie, the night watchwoman, knows how to report curious and scary things from times long past. An entertaining, exciting and informative city tour through Mannheim!
Studded with anecdotes about the “Dishonest Professions,” Elector Carl Theodor's Musenhof, his wife, the lightning rod, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Friedrich Schiller, the age of industrialization, the horseless car (automobile), “smelly air” and, of course, the suffering of night watchman life. With halberds, Marie ensures peace and order and protects her companions from thieves and drunken rabble. The journey through the alleys of the former old town is a mixture of humorous anecdotes, being a night watchman and events from our city's history.
