About this Tour
“Carl initially only received ridicule and derision for his motor car,” reports Bertha Benz on her tour. People spoke of the devil's work and no one wanted the invention. Bertha took on the matter. She had a plan — the world's first promotional car tour from Mannheim to Pforzheim! The trip was a challenge! With daring, a garter and a hat pin, she did it! Bertha talks about the beginnings, the small successes and funny stories about cycling and around the city — about the driver's license, the milk cart, chickens and other tinkerers. The 19th century was the age of inventions and industrial progress. Not only Carl Benz stands for it, but the whole of Mannheim, the “German Chicago”, was on the move! Mannheim's city history is also reported!
