About this class
This combined course gets straight to the nitty-gritty! Pottery and ferment in one session? We dedicate ourselves to food and art in a relaxed atmosphere for an entire Sunday afternoon.
In the first part, you will learn the basics of fermentation and create your own combinations of herbs and various spices. After a break, the second part continues: You get insights into a professional ceramic workshop, discover the potential of handbuilding and work independently with clay mass on your own piece. You can implement smaller projects (bowl/cup) or try something bigger (e.g. fermentation pot). In the end, you take your homemade herb home with you. After a few weeks, you can pick up your ceramics fired and fully glazed.
The workshop takes place at WILLA Berlin — a concept store with special, selected objects for everyday use.
The event will be held in German and English.
The ticket includes:
✔ four-hour workshop
✔ including materials for fermentation and pottery
✔ homemade herb for home ✔ choice of two beautiful glazes
✔ subsequent scrub & glaze firing for your ceramic
What you’ll do in the class
After the welcome and presentation, there is a direct introduction with exciting information about fermentation. The participants then create their own herb. All ingredients and materials are provided for this purpose. The glasses are then labelled by the participants and can be taken home immediately after the end of the course.
This is followed by a half-hour break, during which participants can drink tea on site or eat in the immediate vicinity.
This is followed by an introduction to pottery. Basics for handling clay are shown and options are presented so that participants get an overview of tools and materials. Open questions are clarified. You can then start your own project right away. After about 2-2.5 hours, the course ends with a joint degree. The participants take their herb with them and leave contact information so that they can be informed as soon as their ceramic (s) are ready for collection.
Who is the class suitable for?
For all people over the age of 12. Unfortunately, the shop workshop is not wheelchair accessible and not barrier-free.
