About this class
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is training in which short phases of intensive exercise alternate with recovery phases. HIIT consists of short, intensive workouts that alternate with low-intensity recovery periods.
High-intensity interval training aims to improve metabolic activity, strengthen muscles and strengthen the cardiovascular system.
To minimize the risk of injury, a warm-up should take place beforehand.
Due to the intensive load, the duration of the regeneration period must also be adjusted. A training mix of intensive and extensive endurance sessions is therefore recommended. The rest breaks should be 2 - 3x as long as the stress phases.
The load intervals generally last approximately 20-60 seconds, followed by a rest interval of 40-180 seconds.
The rule is: The better the training level, the longer the exercise interval can be and the shorter the break can be.
A HIIT workout usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes. Although the workout is so short, it can provide health benefits similar to moderate-intensity training that lasts twice as long (Kong et al. 2016).
After the interval units, a cool down takes place.
HIIT training can include various forms of movement and exercises, such as sprinting, cycling, jumping rope or other body weight exercises.
What you’ll do in the class
- We'll warm up briefly with a few easy exercises
- This is followed by great circuit training, the more participants, the more exercises there are, the more fun!
- Finally, there is a cooldown in the form of meditation
