Become a professional in your own home! In this intensive workshop in Karlsruhe, you will learn everything you need to confidently master the most common household construction sites. In an exclusive small group, we will show you step by step how to securely connect a ceiling lamp and professionally install a washing machine.
We go deep into practice: You learn how to replace a mixer tap and the siphon on the sink and how to professionally draw unsightly silicone joints. We are also mastering the issue of drilling and dowels in various types of walls so that every shelf will be bomb-proof in the future. This course alleviates your fear of technology and water. Save yourself expensive craftsmen and take your projects into your own hands!
What you’ll do in the class
1. Greeting & The “Must-Have” Tool
Arrive & get to know each other: Short round of introductions. Who planned which project?
Theory: The basic equipment: Which tools belong in every household?
Quality features: How do I recognize a good tool? (screwdriver, pliers, hammer, ruler, spirit level).
The all-rounder: Why a good cordless screwdriver is half the battle.
Safety comes first: phase tester vs. two-pole voltage tester, safety glasses and work gloves.
2. Drilling & dowels: Holds in every wall
Theory: Wall science (How do I recognize concrete, brick or plaster?) and choosing the right plug (expansion plug vs. cavity plug).
Practice: Each participant drills into various test blocks.
Use of stone, wood and metal drills.
Tips for dust-free drilling and finding cables.
3. Water & sanitation: washing machine & sink.
Theory: How does a siphon work? What should be considered with pressure hoses? (Topic Preventing water damage).
Practice Part A: Connecting a washing machine (transport safety, inflow with aqua stop, drain).
Practice Part B: Replace the mixer tap (valve) and install the tube siphon.
Using the valve pliers and sealing the connections.
4. The perfect silicone joint
Theory: Why do joints leak? Difference between silicone (bath) and acrylic (painting work).
Practice: Remove old silicone with a cutter knife and draw a new, clean joint.
Tips for smoothing (detergent trick) and for the correct joint thickness.
5. Power: Mount the ceiling lamp securely.
Theory: The 5 safety rules of electrical engineering (simplified). Color theory of cables (L, N, PE).
Practice: Connect a lamp to a chandelier terminal or Wago terminals under realistic conditions.
