About this class

A fire puja is a ritual fire ritual that has its roots in the Vedic traditions of India and is practiced in both Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism.

The term is composed of “fire” and the Sanskrit word “puja” (veneration or reverence). At its core, it is about creating a connection with the divine through the element of fire, experiencing purification and releasing positive energies.

Central aspects of the ritual

  • Purification and transformation: Fire is considered a powerful element that burns old or stressful things and transforms them into light or lightness.
  • Offerings: During the ritual, various substances such as butter (ghee), fruit or flowers are added to the fire. Each substance has a symbolic meaning:
    • Butter/Ghee: Stands for prosperity.
    • Fruit: is given to the Divine Mother as a sign of gratitude.
  • Mantras and visualization: The burning of gifts is accompanied by recited mantras and meditative visualizations to reinforce the purpose of the ritual.

What you’ll do in the class

Preparation and cleaning

Before the fire is ignited, the participants create a sacred atmosphere:

  • Outer cleaning: The square is cleaned and decorated with symbols or flowers.
  • Inner cleansing: Practitioners recite cleansing mantras to clear the mind.
  • Mandala creation: In Tibetan tradition, a mandala is often drawn on the ground of the fireplace, which visualizes the deity's palace.

2. Invitation and Ignite

The fire is not simply lit, but invited as a living presence:

  • Sankalpa (Intention): Each participant sets a clear intention or wish for the ritual.
  • Invocation: Mantras call upon the divine energy to take a seat in the flames.
  • Ignite: The fire is sparked solemnly, often using camphor or small logs of wood.

3. Offerings (The core of the ritual)

This is the most active part where gifts are added to the fire:

  • Ghee sacrifice: With special wooden spoons, liquid butter (ghee) is poured into the flames, which nourishes the fire and stands for purity.

4. Meditation and visualization

While the flames are blazing, the participants remain in silence or sing bhajans (spiritual songs) together:

Transformation: You visualize stressful thoughts or obstacles burning in the “fire of wisdom” and dissolving into light.

  • Absorb blessings: The warmth and light of the fire are perceived as a direct blessing from the deity.

5. Conclusion and distribution

The ritual ends harmoniously to seal the energy:

  • Thanksgiving prayer: A final prayer thanks the people called upon.
  • Vibhuti (Sacred Ash): As soon as the fire is extinguished, the cooled ash is often applied to the forehead or collected as a blessing, as it is considered to be energetically highly charged.

Who is the class suitable for?

A fire puja is both a deeply spiritual ritual and a meditative experience. This course is aimed at anyone who is open to Eastern philosophies and working with elements.

  • Spiritual seekers and curious people: People who are looking for a deep connection with the divine or the universe and want to experience a tradition dating back thousands of years up close.
  • Practitioners of yoga or Buddhism: For yogis and meditators, fire puja is a powerful addition to physical practice to release energetic blockages and purify the mind.
  • People in phases of change: Anyone who wants to let go of the old (e.g. after a separation, a job change or a loss) and wants to make room for new things uses the transformative power of fire as a symbolic conclusion.
  • Therapists and energy specialists: People who work in healing professions often use the ritual for their own energetic purification or to clear rooms.
  • Friends of nature: Since the ritual often takes place outdoors and directly includes the elements (fire, air, earth, ether), it appeals to people who find strength in nature.

Requirements: As a
rule, no previous experience is required. An inner attitude is more important than technical knowledge: respect for tradition and the willingness to engage in the meditative atmosphere.
