Watercolor painting and mixed techniques:
Discover the potential of watercolors
Watercolors are surprisingly versatile: They are suitable for atmospheric landscape images, for coloring quick sketches and colorful illustrations in equal measure, and are environmentally friendly, easy to use and easy to transport.
Regardless of the subject and individual style, watercolor paintings impress with their transparency, freshness and lightness.
Since this watercolor course takes place in a small group, I can respond to all participants individually and you can implement your own wishes and ideas with my support. The techniques learned in this way provide the basis for further projects.
Basics of watercolor painting
In a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere, I'll show you step by step how to work with watercolors and combine them creatively with other materials.
This course teaches basic watercolor painting techniques, such as wet-on-wet painting, washing and painting in layers. Through the self-created gradients on wet paper, you can create magical effects with delicate shades of color, washing creates fine shades and by applying the paint in several layers, you achieve depth and color intensity. Mixing techniques with various artistic materials such as colored pencils, gouache and fineliners open up further exciting design options.
The focus is on the fun of watercolor painting and the joy of experimenting. There are no mistakes - just “happy accidents!”
All materials are provided so that you can fully concentrate on painting.
Let your creativity run wild with watercolors!
How does this activity work?
First, the material and basic watercolor techniques are explained: What is special about watercolor paper and paints? How does wet-in wet painting work? What is “washing”? How do you actually mix a shade of lilac? Why is white not used in watercolor painting? How and when do fineliners and gouache come into play, for example? What is it about the salt shaker?
After a few small exercises to get familiar with the material and technology, it's time to get to the first correct picture. Here - by arrangement - your own ideas can be realized.
Step by step, the picture is built up in several layers, from the sketch to the finished work. Other materials are also used in the various stages - for example a drawing with a waterproof fineliner, which is then colored. Colored pencils are used later, and finally the opaque water-based gouache. Interesting effects can be achieved with oil pastels, salt and alcohol.
Who should definitely take part?
Beginners and advanced learners interested in art - Basic drawing skills are an advantage but not necessary!
