Why Hailey

Meet Hailey:

Hailey Wong is a designer and artist with a deep passion for Suminagashi 墨流し, the ancient Japanese art. With over five years of hosting Suminagashi workshops and seven years of experience leading a variety of art sessions, Hailey has dedicated herself to sharing this meaningful art form with participants from all over the world. 

In addition to her workshops, Hailey continually explores ways to blend this ancient technique with modern design. A notable project includes her collaboration with Lomography on the Simple Use Film Camera—Optimistic Ox Edition, which featured her Suminagashi art and was recognised by DesignRush as one of the Top Gadget Packaging Designs of 2023. Through collaborations and innovative projects like this, Hailey elevates Suminagashi into new realms of contemporary art and design.
 

An Art Workshop Beyond Art and Visual:

Hailey's workshops go beyond the creation of beautiful patterns—they offer a holistic experience where art meets mindfulness. Through the delicate interplay of water and ink, participants are guided on a journey of self-expression, relaxation, and reflection. For many, Suminagashi has become a “Muße” practice—a calming ritual that brings peace, creativity, and a sense of presence into their daily lives. 

Come as you are—this art requires no prior skills or experience, just an open heart ready to let go and watch the magic unfold. As you watch the ink flow on the water, forming beautiful patterns, your worries seem to drift away, and a sense of lightness fills your heart. As the ink and colours flow freely on the water, so does your creativity! You'll create beautiful organic patterns as unique as your own stories. You might be surprised by how deeply you immerse yourself in the process and by the sense of freedom and peace you feel as you let go, embrace uncertainty, and trust your instincts.

The workshop will be conducted in English.

Team Events and Private Events:

Hailey also offers private and team events, customising her workshops to create unique group experiences. Whether for corporate team-building or personal celebrations, these sessions foster connection, creativity, and relaxation in a meaningful, memorable way.

Workshops for groups and private events are flexible and can be held at a venue of your choice, depending on your needs. For open workshops, Hailey works with fixed locations to create an intimate and serene setting. Special requirements for group events can always be discussed to best suit your preferences.
