I gave this cooking class to my best friend for his birthday to show him a part of my world: I'm half Congolese. Yet this course has allowed me to rediscover the kitchen. I also don't remember eating better West African cuisine in Berlin than I did here at this class. Bijou is super sweet, funny, entertaining and professional. From preparing fufu from scratch to making homemade hot sauce — everything was exceptional. We had a great evening. I would book the course again just because of taste, even though I'm still full now.

Wow, it was really great! Bijoux is a great host and teacher! We learned how to cook, but we also learned a lot of interesting facts. And all of this in a cozy communal atmosphere. I was allowed to be an assistant, an honorary role! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Wonderful experience. Bijoux took a lot of time to explain everything to us and we felt very comfortable. Apart from the family atmosphere, the food was delicious, especially the Makayabu fish with beans. Thank you for a great evening.

Die Kursleiterin war super nett und hat zu jedem Gericht die Geschichte und teilweise auch die Herstellungsprozesse bestimmter Zutaten erklärt. Insgesamt war es eine sehr gemütliche heimelige Atmosphäre, die Musik war toll....und natürlich war das Essen super lecker.

For me, the Congolese cooking class at Bijoux is one of the top 20 events you should have held in Berlin.
Anyone taking a cooking class for the first time shouldn't take this as a standard, because their concept is unique and I can hardly imagine anyone else being able to implement it as confidently as Bijoux.
The evening was wonderful, private and incredibly delicious. I will definitely be repeating this course and am already looking forward to it!

Bijoux is an absolutely amazing host & cook. The tone of the evening was very cozy & personal, the foods were delicious, and on top of that, the explanations of the different ingredients were so thorough that we won't have any issues picking the right produce.
It was a phenomenal experience. Highly recommended!

A cooking class like no other! In a homely atmosphere, Bijoux leads the cooking class at home, with heart and soul. She is a born entertainer, serves her own chili sauces and African beers and gives you an all-round exhilarating feeling. At the end of the course, you will receive a beautifully designed booklet with recipes and restaurant and Afroshop tips, plus beignets for loved ones at home. Highly recommended:)

Get to know Bijoux Mankele
My name is Bijoux
I was born in Angola and lived in Congo for 11 years. After growing up in Cologne, I now breathe the Berlin air.
A cook? No, I learned to cook from the best grandma in the world: My grandma. When I wasn't under our mango tree in the garden, I was standing in the kitchen with Grandma. Before she could safely hand over a knife to me, I watched her with joy. When it was finally ready, everything in my childhood was just about cooking. So much that we had a basic rule: Bijoux only cooks on weekends, otherwise she'll never make friends! My wonderful grandma (inside and out) taught me that African cuisine can do more than “just” fufu or couscous. I want to spread this message to the world!
