Spoon carving workshop — learn to carve wooden spoons yourself
In this workshop, you will learn how to carve your own wooden spoon using simple tools. Spoon carving is one of the oldest forms of woodworking and combines traditional knowledge with calm, concentrated handwork. Step by step, a fresh piece of wood is used to create an individual cooking spoon or tablespoon — made entirely by hand.
The wooden spoon carving course is aimed at beginners as well as people with initial experience in carving. Together, we work with knives, hook knives and simple hand tools. You will learn basic carving techniques, safe tool management and get a feel for fiber direction, wood structure and shape.
The course takes place in a relaxed atmosphere and offers plenty of time to try things out, ask questions and exchange ideas. In the end, you take home your own carved wooden spoon — a practical kitchen tool and at the same time a handmade unique item.
What you’ll do in the class
The course is as follows:
- At the beginning, there is a short round of introductions about people and materials & tools,.
- Preliminary considerations (or none, just as well) of the participants are articulated, and the desired form is selected
- The blanks are being used for jobs
- Ziswdchen through ever more mood polling and support for working and choosing tools
- After 2 hours, the interim results will be discussed, and the foreseeable end of the 3 hours
- Enough sanding work (or not, as appropriate)
- Surface treatment is not the topic or content of the workshop, and is left to the participants
- At the end, a round of feedback and a mutual spoon view.
Who is the class suitable for?
The spoon carving course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn about traditional woodworking. No previous experience is required. All tools and materials are provided.
