About this experience

Numerous writers have been inspired by whiskey. He is a loyal companion for many literary figures. Whisky meets literature, bottle meets people, transience meets timelessness, water meets fire.

Whisky is not just a drink: It is the starting point, state, posture, symbol and catalyst — a means of relaxation as well as anesthetic, even a sign of loss of control. But not all whiskey is the same. What did the authors and their protagonists drink?

We'll get to grips with the topic — and try it out ourselves. With stories by and about Charles Bukowski, William Faulkner, Graham Greene, James Joyce, Haruki Murakami, Jo Nesbø, Frank Schätzing and David Foster Wallace, as well as partial background knowledge, many quotes and six whiskeys from four countries, we have more than enough material for an evening.

“Always remember me that I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me.” (Winston Churchill)

How does this experience take place?

This event combines literature and pleasure in a special way:

Each reading includes a suitable drama: A total of six whiskies (2 cl each) from different distilleries are tasted, which are related to the authors and works presented by Jürgen Diessl. The event is accompanied by a pictorial insight into the world of distilleries, expertly presented by whiskey expert Tanja Bempreiksz.

Jürgen Diessl has worked in the publishing industry for 30 years and is program manager at ECON at Ullstein book publishers in Berlin.
