About this class

Make Easter ornaments from porcelain

Porcelain — the diva among ceramic materials — is conquering Easter time in this workshop. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can make your own Easter decorations out of porcelain.

In the first part of the workshop, we dive into casting technology with plaster molds together. Pour your personal set of pendants out of Easter egg molds with porcelain casting compound. You will learn all the important steps of the manufacturing process:
from mixing the casting compound to casting, demolding and cleaning to glazing, firing and simple decoration techniques.

In addition, we work with plate technology. With the help of cookie cutters, you can create Easter motifs made of clay that complement your Easter decorations. You will learn the basics of using sound and how to work out motifs cleanly.

After the first appointment, the workpieces are dried and fired and ground glazed and fired again.
In a second appointment, you will individually decorate your jewelry with felt-tip pens. This is followed by the third fire.

What you’ll do in the class

In this workshop, we learn two different ceramic techniques.

1. Casting technology
At the beginning, we look at the casting molds: We discuss what material they are made of, why they are used and what function they have in the manufacturing process. You will then learn how to mix and use the porcelain casting compound correctly.
After a defined holding period, we unmold our workpieces together and let them dry.

2. Plate technology
While the cast parts dry, we prepare the plate technology. With the help of my shapes and cookie cutters, you will create Easter motifs out of clay. In doing so, you will learn the basics of this technique and how to properly work out the forms.

The finished parts are then prepared for drying. After the complete drying phase, they are fired. I then glaze the workpieces and they are fired a second time.

This process takes a total of around four weeks. You can then pick up your finished parts and decorate them individually with colorful pens at another appointment. This date is set jointly and individually.
Alternatively, it is also possible to do the decoration yourself at home.
