The 18-hole golf course built by the American Army after a forest fire on an old tank training area between Walldorf and Oftersheim is one of the oldest golf courses in Baden-Württemberg. The course was designed by Bernhard von Limburger, a German golf course architect and once a pioneer of golf in Germany. His other works include renowned golf courses such as Stuttgart's Solitude Golf Club and Hubbelrath Golf Club.

The course, completed in July 1958, was the home club of German and American golfers from 1971-2013, who played here amicably and in good agreement.

On September 30, 2013, the American Army said its goodbyes and handed over the golf course to Rheintal Golf Club. He managed the business temporarily before the Gutperle family incorporated the Golfplatz Rheintal into the “Gutperle Golf Courses” on May 1, 2014, without sacrificing the American flair and relaxed atmosphere.

The slightly hilly complex, located on centuries-old sand dunes, is bordered by dense pine forest to the south and west. In the east, the view stretches across fields to Heidelberg and the Odenwald. The old trees give the traditional and oldest golf course in the metropolitan region a special touch and make for a pleasant game even in extreme heat. Although there are no water hazards, the hard-to-play greens are well defended by bunkers and demand the respect of even experienced golfers. Five par 5 and five par 3 holes are a special feature that is not often found.
