About this class

Carve — straight from the bathroom. Freehand carving doesn't take much: one or two knives, some material and a little time. Soap is surprisingly good for this. It is homogeneous, soft to work with and reacts in a similar way to wood. If you make the wrong cut, material breaks away to the outside. That is precisely why it is an ideal exercise object for editing. And from a simple piece, you can quickly create a small handmade gift.

What you’ll do in the class

In my studio, we carve in a small group of 1—6 participants. You don't need any previous experience.

I'll show you the basic carving techniques with which you can develop a small shape from a simple bar of soap step by step. Soap is an ideal material to get started: It is soft, homogeneous and easy to control.

The course is particularly suitable for getting a feel for editing and tools — without any pressure. In the end, you take home one or more pieces you have carved yourself.

Who is the class suitable for?

The course is suitable for absolute beginners as well as for participants who have already carved and would like to try out a new material.
