Get to know Papieroffizin

The paper office in Fürth was founded in 2017 by book scholar Matthias Schwethelm and is one of only very few places in Germany where high-quality handmade handmade paper is still produced. Inspired by the historic paper mill in Schweina, which is owned by the family, Matthias Schwethelm has set himself the task of researching the traditional papermaking craft in all its versatility and bringing it new life.

Since 2017, the Fürth paper factory on the outskirts of Nuremberg has been passionately experimenting and producing. The paper office now produces a wide range of handmade papers and specializes in meeting individual customer requirements.

In addition, imparting paper knowledge is also very important to us. And of course, the fun of paper making should not be neglected either. That is why we have been offering a whole range of courses for many years in which the paper craft can be experienced.

In various course formats related to scooping paper, we offer an unforgettable insight into the processes of traditional paper production and the numerous creative opportunities that arise as a result.

Unlike in many other paper-making courses, we start making paper as early as fiber processing. Here, we not only dissolve napkins and waste paper, but also make our paper from specially ground (holed) fiber pulp from textiles, cotton or other natural fibers, for example. We also attach great importance to the use of professional tools, in particular high-quality paper ladle sieves with metal mesh, powerful presses and efficient drying systems. As a course participant, you benefit not only from our many years of experience, but also from the professional equipment of our paper factory and you will also see that in the papers you produce.

On 75 square meters, our workshop offers space for groups of up to a maximum of 10 people. For our creative courses, we limit the number of participants to 6 people. All our courses are personally led by Matthias Schwethelm. We do not have an agenda or a fixed course program, but are happy to address the content of what you enjoy and would like to experience. In a relaxed atmosphere, of course
