About this class
My ikebana workshops in Berlin-Friedrichshain are taking a summer break.
Many people prefer to spend the warm season outside in nature. That's a good fit, because that's where Ikebana starts.
When you travel with your eyes open, you discover the character of each plant:
- the tension of a curved line
- the rhythm of leaves
- the power of a branch
- the lightness of a flower
This conscious observation trains your eye and forms an important basis of ikebana art.
The best way to create an arrangement is in a quiet environment. Wind, rain or changing light make concentrated work difficult. That's why we traditionally practice ikebana indoors.
My workshops will start again in autumn. I am looking forward to welcoming beginners as well as advanced users.
If you would like to use the summer time to get started with Ikebana at Sogetsu School, feel free to send me a message. I'll send you an overview of the basic equipment free of charge.
You'll also find videos about tools and materials. I consciously teach the basic forms and design principles of the Sogetsu School in personal lessons so that you get a secure basis right from the start.
Maybe you'll enjoy trying out my summer challenge from 2023 and 2024. There you will find small suggestions and tasks with which you can explore plants from nature and train your eye for shapes, lines and proportions.
You don't need any previous knowledge, but above all curiosity, the joy of observing and the willingness to look at nature through the eyes of ikebana.
If you want, feel free to send me photos of your work. I am pleased with your results and will give you a brief feedback on request.
Until then, I wish you many inspiring encounters with nature. Perhaps on your next walk, you will discover a branch, grass or a wild flower that makes you pause. It is precisely with this attentive look that Ikebana begins.
