RIE TAKEDA book classes

I was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. I began practicing SHODO at the age of five under the creative guidance of my grandmother, a well-known GAYU calligrapher. I later took SHODO lessons at a GAYU calligraphy school. There I received a solid foundation on which not only my various techniques and skills of calligraphy were built, but also the SUMIE technique for calligraphic design. During my studies, I also worked as an assistant for calligraphy lessons for children in Japan and London. I have been working as a freelance artist and professional calligrapher in Europe and Japan since 2000. In addition to creating various forms of expression in my calligraphy works and Neo-Japonism art, I have been giving courses on “SHODO — the art of Japanese calligraphy” in Europe since 2002.
