About this experience

Get to know the art of Japanese repair from the ground up at the traditional kintsugi workshop in Hamburg. Over seven consecutive appointments, you will accompany the entire Kintsugi process — from gluing and repairing to finishing with brass, copper or tin powder. You'll work with authentic Urushi paint, repair up to two of your own ceramic objects and gain exciting insights into the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. Due to the small group size, you benefit from personal support throughout the course.

Teamevents and groups

The Kintsugi Foundations course is an intensive, multi-week learning program and is therefore not suitable as a classic event or team building format. For private or team events, we recommend the Kintsugi introductory workshop.

Location and accessibility

The course takes place in the studio and is easily accessible by public transport. The building has only limited barrier-free access and the lift does not always work reliably. Please contact us in advance if you have any questions about accessibility.

How does this experience take place?

The Kintsugi Foundations program comprises 7 consecutive dates:

  • You glue the ceramic objects together.
  • You fill and sand the repaired areas.
  • You finish the surface with metal powder.

Between appointments, the Urushi paint hardens so that you can continue each phase under good conditions. During the entire course, you will work in a small group and receive individual support.

Who is it suitable for

  • For beginners
  • No previous experience required
  • Ideal for anyone who likes to work artisanally
  • Suitable for anyone who wants to take time for a quiet and careful process
