Class description
Learn to work with colored clay to make beautifully patterned ceramics in our Nerikomi hand-building course!
The historic, decorative process of Nerikomi began in Japan. It involves arranging coloured clay in a block, then slicing through the cross-section to reveal a pattern. We then use these slices together to create beautiful ceramics through ceramics hand-building and cutting techniques.
Nerikomi is a special technique to obtain colour and pattern in clay without complex glazing. You don’t need any prior experience – we encourage you to stay open to experimentation! 🙂
After the Nerikomi hand-building course, our team will glaze your pieces with transparent glaze and fire them twice in the kiln, making them functional and food-safe. They’ll be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks later.
The course fee includes expert teaching with personal help, all your materials like clay and color pigment, ceramics tools, plus our glazing and firing service. Feel free to bring a photo of a pattern or painting that inspires you!
