Class description
In this creative workshop, you will learn how to lay mosaics
From colorful mosaic tiles, old tiles, found objects or shards, you create a bowl, a stone or a flower pot. You design the surface of a vessel with mosaic tiles or mosaic glass.
If you have not cast a bowl (see concrete casting), you can use an old tile, a flower pot or a stone with a smooth surface.
Laying mosaics is an ancient art, known as floor mosaics in churches or the mosaics of the Romans, which can be seen beautifully in Cologne's Roman-Germanic Museum.
But it is not only the classic tile/or glass mosaic stones that serve as surface designs, but also found objects such as shells and stones from your last vacation, broken glass tiles, plates, crockery, bottle caps and interesting plastic lids. In fact, many inspiring pieces from the yellow bin (upcycled) serve as decorative material.
Let your creativity run wild when laying mosaics
With the mosaics, you not only create a color impulse, but you can also — depending on the laying pattern — support the given shape: round, oval, square, pointed, linear, rectangular, etc. You can also play with the opposite - namely by using a simple, gray, monochrome, smooth concrete on the one hand and a colorful, shiny, beautifully groped mosaic on the other hand.
For example, the interior or the outer edge or the detail, e.g. the bird on the drinking trough, remains grey.
The end result is a brightly colored, iridescent or even simply beautiful vessel that can also be placed outside. Your individual work of art!
Katrin Kleinau owns the copyright of the pictures.
