Steps of the tour
Between cobblestones and curiosities
The Schnoor quarter in Bremen is like a walk-in storybook: narrow alleys, leaning houses, ornate doors and winding backyards. Here, one historic house follows the next — like pearls on a string.
Schnoor isn't just old — he's really old. Houses were built here as early as the Middle Ages. Back then, craftsmen and river fishermen lived in the small quarter. Today, on the one hand, the Schnoor is a real gem full of history, art and little surprises around every corner. On the other hand, it is also a residential district with around 300 inhabitants — the so-called Schnoorians.
Our Schnoor tour is much more than just a stroll through the narrow alleys. We will take you on a journey through the centuries, during which you will not only be amazed but also smile. Why was Schnoor a rather disreputable district in the past? What is the cat stone all about? Why was there a toilet fee here as early as the Middle Ages? Which popular but also somewhat cranky Bremen original once ran around here cursing and why? And where is a house that is smaller than many caravans hidden? You will find out the answers and much more during the tour. The small quarter is also a real highlight for photo fans — every alley offers a new motif and each house is a small work of art in itself.
