About this class
In this workshop, you will experiment with bleach art, specifically discoloring dark textiles instead of painting them. This creates graphic lines, organic patterns, abstract compositions or illustrative motifs directly on fabric. You don't need any previous experience. I will guide you step by step from the initial idea to small tests to the finished textile. The workshop takes place in my studio in Nuremberg. A calm, creative atmosphere awaits you with space to try things out, ask questions and create. In the end, you take home a unique piece of your own design, such as a T-shirt, a cloth bag, a sweatshirt or another dark cotton textile.
Details to remember
What to bring to the class
Wear clothes that may stain. Optionally, you can bring your own washed textile made from 100 percent cotton, coloured or dark but not white. There are also fabric samples on site for testing.
What is included in the class?
I provide all materials for the decolorization technique: bleach, tools for drawing and application, gloves, protective material, test materials and a neutralization bath to stop the reaction. There are also some T-shirts, cloth bags and fabric samples that you can use on site while supplies last. Textile dyes for optional further processing of the brightened areas are also included.

What you’ll do in the class
We start with a short introduction to decolorization technology and discuss which substances are suitable. You then decide together where the motif will be placed on the textile and which design fits best: your own design, a free drawing or a pattern. Before you work on the garment, test lines, surfaces and effects on test pieces. You then draw the motif on the fabric with bleach and watch how the color changes. When the desired effect is achieved, we stop the reaction with a neutralizing bath and rinse the textile thoroughly. If you want, you can then further design the brightened areas with textile dyes.
Who is the class suitable for?
For adults and young people aged 14 and over who are interested in experimental textile design. No previous experience is required. The course is suitable for creative beginners, art enthusiasts and anyone who wants to design their own piece of clothing or accessory.
