About this class
In the gel print workshop, you will learn an experimental monoprint technique using the Gelli Plate. Although it is a printing technique, each image is only created once: Each print is unique and cannot be repeated exactly. We work with acrylic paint, gel plates in various shapes and sizes, paper, stencils, textures, plants, fabrics, threads, our own stamps and, if desired, with words or typographic elements. Step by step, you'll move from simple monochrome prints to multi-layered compositions. In doing so, you learn to think “in reverse”: The first layer of paint on the plate appears at the very top of the print later on. In the end, you take home a small collection of your own work, such as cards, invitations, monoprints, collage elements or personal souvenir pictures.

What you’ll do in the class
- We prepare the workstations together and I explain the basics of Gel Print, Gelli Plate and Monoprint.
- You then choose materials from a prepared collection: stencils, structures, plants, fabrics, threads, small found objects, letters or typographic elements.
- Level 1: You create the first simple prints with a color and a motif to get to know the technology.
- Level 2: We work with two colors and two layers. It involves contrasts, color combinations and simple planning.
- Level 3: We build more complex prints with multiple layers and work with softer materials such as plants, fabrics, threads, or other structures.
- Level 4: We experiment with typographic prints, letters, words, and magazine or newspaper elements. This part is particularly exciting, but also unpredictable.
- You learn to plan colors, sequence, print marks and composition more consciously without completely losing chance.
- Each print is taken with paper, dried and collected.
- At the end, you review your work and take home a small series, cards, invitations, collage elements or personal souvenir pictures.
Who is the class suitable for?
The course is aimed at adults and young people who want to work experimentally with color, print, pattern and personal expression. No previous experience is required. Gel print is particularly suitable for people who want to work creatively without having to draw or paint right away. Through layers, traces, words, found objects and chance, thoughts and feelings can take on a symbolic form. The course does not replace art therapy, but it can be a mindful creative break. Also suitable for anyone who wants to create cards, small picture series, collage elements or personal keepsakes.
