Lange Vorstellung

I am Melanie, freelance artist and founder of Ateljé Bara Vara in Munich. Until July, I lived in Sweden with my family for almost 4 years — and this is exactly the mentality I want to bring with me to Munich: “Bara vara” means “just be” in Swedish. That is my mission — a place where people can be creative, without pressure and without previous knowledge. My passion for painting has been with me ever since I was a child. In Sweden, I finally attended a major art course at the Folksuniversitetet and rediscovered my passion through my own commissioned painting. It is also particularly important to me to pass on art and creativity to children — I love to paint with my three children myself and love to share this joy with other kids as well.

Location

My studio is located in Münchnen Schwanthalerhöhe with a large window front. The room is deliberately compact, charming and personal and offers space for up to 6-8 people around a shared table — ideal for small, private groups who want to focus entirely on themselves and creativity.

Classes and events

For me, everything is not just about painting and crafting: In addition to acrylic painting with textured paste and mixed media elements in a relaxed “Sip & Create” format, I also offer a variety of DIY courses. It's about trying things out, not perfection — everyone goes home with their own work. Especially for children between 6 and 10 years of age, there is the weekly Mini-Ateljé, in which I pass on my love of creativity directly to the little ones. For adults, I offer various creative workshops during the week and occasionally on weekends. There are also special formats such as “She Creates Herself” for creative breaks or “Mama takes a break” for mums with child-free time.

Team events and private events

Yes, I also offer private events — from company parties to hen parties and (children's) birthdays. The special thing: The group stays among themselves, the program is individually tailored to the occasion, and the small, personal atmosphere of the Ateljé creates an experience that stands out significantly from larger, open community events. In addition, I incorporate Swedish comfort with a little fika (coffee and snacks) into all my workshops.
