About this Tour
This city tour in Hamburg is different: You explore the city center blindfolded, guided and safely accompanied. With a cane for the blind, blindfold and all your senses, you'll travel from the main train station through the heart of the city. You hear, smell, feel — and discover Hamburg in a completely new way. You will learn how blind people orient themselves in everyday life — and what seeing really means. This experience is guaranteed to be memorable and gives you new perspectives on yourself and your environment.
General
On all city tours, you wear a blindfold for the entire duration. You will receive a blind cane that is right for you and will be instructed how to use it. While you're exploring the city center, you're always hooked on to your tour guide — so you're always safe on the road. Your blind cane will warn you of obstacles; your guide will announce steps or other irregularities in good time.
The tours can generally start every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If your preferred date is not included, you are welcome to make an appointment request (at least 1 day in advance).
Steps of the tour
- Please let us know your height in cm in advance so that we can provide you with a suitable cane
- Meeting point: Hamburg Central Station, Wandelhalle, opposite DB Reisezentrum
- Introduction: You will receive a blindfold and a matching cane
- Instructions for safe use of both tools
- City tour through pedestrian zones, near the town hall, Jungfernstieg, etc.
- Orientation based solely on hearing, smelling and touching
- Hooked on by your guide — constantly accompanied & protected
- Flexible route and end point — depending on group dynamics and pace
- Optional short break with a drink or snack
- Duration: approx. 1.5 to 2 hours
