Would you like to make your own leather accessory? Then this leather course in Berlin is just the right thing for you! During our one-week intensive leather course, you will learn about different types of leather, tools, and various manufacturing techniques.
Course schedule (daily from 9:30 to 16:30):
Day 1 (13.6.22):
- After a clear introduction to the tools and types of leather, you will learn various hand sewing techniques
- We will make a small leather item to get a general understanding of the various techniques and options for working with leather.
Objectives:
- Introduction to different types of leather, their properties and uses
- Understanding leather tools and how to use them
- leather cutting
- Learn various hand sewing techniques
- Professional sanding, polishing and coloring of edges
Day 2 (14.6.22):
- The day begins with a theoretical introduction to the basic principles of pattern making for leather products
- We distinguish between several styles of leather processing: internal seams and open edges, with or without lining
- You can then make a small accessory and deepen and apply the various techniques
Objectives:
- Understanding how to design patterns for leather processing (how do I get from an idea to the final product)
- Understanding seams, seam allowances, and lining
- The right choice of leather for the product
- Making a small leather item
Day 3 (15.6.22):
- At the beginning of the day, there is a short introduction to embossing logos and initials on leather
- You then start working on your own leather product or leather bag, based on the knowledge you have acquired in the first 2 days
- Participants can choose a model from 5 different patterns and make, for example, a waist bag, a handbag, a clutch or a small shoulder bag
- The items may have handles, straps and zippers and internal pockets
- The next step will be to understand, create or change the existing pattern according to your design preferences
- We start by preparing the leather parts for your product. It is also possible for participants to bring their own finished pattern
- If you already have previous knowledge and an idea for a bag and a pattern, we are happy to call before the course and talk about it
Objectives:
- embossing on leather
- Sketch and edit the pattern, possibly change
- Prepare leather for processing
Day 4 and 5 (16. and 17.6.22):
- In the last two days, we sew and perfect your product
- If you complete it before the end of the course or decide to only work on small accessories, you can of course start a new one and let your imagination run wild
Objectives:
- Production of your leather product
- Attaching buckles, handles, and fasteners
- If necessary, sew inner lining
- Manufacture of inner bags
Who is the course suitable for?
- No previous experience working with leather is required for this course, but a bit of experience making products is helpful. The participants who are already very safe with an industrial sewing machine can also get to know our professional leather sewing machine and manufacture their products with the sewing machine
- Maximum 5 participants
What is included?
- A small selection of pieces of leather that we use to learn various techniques are included in the course fee.
- Larger pieces of leather for your own product, as well as a range of ingredients such as (buttons, rivets, zippers and buckles) can be purchased locally
- If you already have some experience with leather and know what your product should look like, feel free to bring your own leather or even a pattern
