Very nice tour with interesting historical insights, delicious food and spontaneous changes on request were no problem. Vegetarian and possibly vegan options are also possible.

We really enjoyed the tour and the food as a whole package. Klaus is a very friendly guide and has told us (both Kreuzberger and non-Berliner) a few new things. Highly recommended!

The route was just right, not too far and in an interesting neighborhood. The food was fantastic and praised from all sides.

The selection of restaurants was great, as was the communication in advance; the tour was flexibly adapted to our needs and, despite the very large group (22), everything went smoothly. Maybe Klaus could have told a few more stories about the neighborhood in the meantime, but that was certainly difficult due to the size of the group. Thank you so much for the experience — we all loved it.

Great, delicious tour. We ended up eating cardboard. The information about Kreuzberg was also interesting, even for us “locals”. The track is easy, you always have the opportunity to sit down. Many thanks to Klaus. :-)

Get to know Kontext Berlin

Hi, I'm Klaus Wehner.

At Kontext Berlin, I offer well-founded, lively and entertaining city tours — with a particular focus on the historic center of Berlin around Museum Island.

As a passionate lover of Berlin, I see myself as an “ever-new Berliner”: moved in, enthusiastic — and regularly taking part in neighborhood and history tours myself. Because Berlin never stops opening up new perspectives.

My areas of expertise

1. The historic center — Mitte & Museum Island
This is my particular focus. The history of Berlin's origins, the development from a medieval twin town to a Prussian residential city to today's capital — all of this is tangible around Museum Island.

Here in particular, history can be told in contexts: Architecture, power, culture and identity are concentrated in just a few square meters. Even Berliners often discover surprising backgrounds and new perspectives on what is supposedly familiar.

2. Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg — my home neighborhood
Between the labor movement, squatters, subculture and gentrification, I tell the recent history of Berlin where it is particularly lively.

My philosophy

A good city tour provides well-founded facts — but it thrives on connections, stories and enthusiasm.
Annual figures are important, but understanding developments, breaks and continualities is crucial.

A guided tour should provide information — and be an experience at the same time.

For Berliners and visitors

Berlin is huge and complex. And that is precisely why even long-time Berliners — regardless of whether they have moved in or original Berliners — can learn new things during a guided tour.

My aim is to tell well-known places in such a way that they arouse curiosity again. Especially in the historic center and on Museum Island, it's clear that even seemingly familiar places contain stories that surprise.

I'm looking forward to rediscovering Berlin together.
