Class description
Clay is usually the first step in a long process of making pottery: from clay to glazed and finished fired work. We've developed some event concepts so that you can easily get an insight into pottery.
Thanks to our special concept, you now also have the chance to experience pottery as a private group, as a team building or corporate event in just one session.
Pottery course in Berlin: What is the process?
Turntable trial session (2 hours): Learn the basics of pottery at the turntable
- You will receive an introduction to how to model the clay on the turntable into beautiful vessels
- Then get to work yourself: Make your own works of art at the turntable
- Making pottery on the wheel is challenging yet meditative, requires strength, concentration & letting go
- During pottery, we are there to support you
- This session is process-oriented and does not include finished results.
- However, if you absolutely want to take home a souvenir, you can get this in cash on site for an additional charge of 5 euros (scrub fire) or 10 euros (scrub fire, glaze by our team and glaze fire). The finished item can then be picked up 2-3 weeks after the appointment. (See explanation below).
Who is the pottery course in Berlin suitable for?
The course is suitable for anyone who wants to gain their first pottery experience. Of course, you don't need any previous knowledge, because fun is paramount.
Even if you're looking for a creative event — e.g. as a team event, birthday party or reunion, this pottery course is perfect.
The course is also suitable for people who are interested in the potter's wheel but shy away from the costs of a multi-day course because they are not sure whether they actually enjoy working on the potter's wheel.
To address some misunderstandings of the past: In order to produce flammable objects, the pieces are usually dried after 2 days and further processed on the bottom and outside (twisting off). This cannot be implemented during a one-evening course. In addition, it is not possible to carve your personal initials into the underside of freshly turned objects because, unlike construction ceramics, they are very soft. Without individual initials on the bottom, it is relatively time-consuming for us to assign the objects to the right people when they come out of the oven. But if someone absolutely wants to keep their freshly turned object, we can offer this service in cash on site for an additional charge of 5 euros (scrub fire) or 10 euros (scrub fire, glaze by our team and glaze fire). However, we do not recommend this and only offer this service because there were misunderstandings in the original course description.
If you want a complete introduction to the art of pottery wheels, including twisting and glazing, you should opt for a course lasting several days.
We have a very international audience and try to hire instructors who speak both English and German for our courses. However, in the event of staff shortages, course instructors may only speak German or only English well and only speak the other language rudimentarily. However, it should be possible to cover the decisive aspects with keywords, examples and insights.
