About this class
Greek Easter, also known as “Pascha,” is characterized by deep traditions and culinary
customs. The festivities begin with Lent. On Holy Saturday, people
gather in church for midnight mass to celebrate Christ's resurrection.
The highlight is the “Anastasi”, when believers receive the Easter
light. After Mass, families return home to break the fast with a “Magirista”
soup. Lamb is the traditional Easter dish prepared with
lemons, garlic and herbs. Red eggs are broken during table games. Sweet
treats such as tsoureki (Easter bread) and koulourakia (butter cookies) round off the feast.
