Class description
What can you expect?
In his drawing seminar “Urban Sketching on the Rhine,” Jens Hübner shows you how architecture, trees or people can be captured in sketchbooks almost incidentally. After an introduction, it's off to the banks of the Rhine, the cathedral, the train station or other interesting places in Cologne. In an understandable way, you will be taught how to grasp proportions, apply perspective rules correctly and avoid photographically depicting a scene with a pen. Spontaneous drawing on site with a loose line trains an eye for the essentials. Finally, you will be shown what to consider in order to accentuate the resulting pencil sketches with a little watercolor paint.
What topics are we going to cover?
- Which sketching materials are the right ones for sketching unobtrusively on the road?
- What colors do I need for quick watercolor painting?
- How do I lose fear of the new sketchbook?
- What tricks are there for quickly sketching architecture, vegetation and people?
- How do I complete my sketches with tonal values, font and frame?
Who is the course for?
Prior participation in basic or advanced courses is not a requirement. No previous drawing, sketching and watercolor experience is required.

GRENZGANG
GRENZGANG, that is a packed backpack with various events, in nine cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and online.
The workshop was well prepared and the learning content was well structured. I've taken a lot of new and inspiring ...
Competent, cheerful, well placed, great organization, come back again.
A bit short and therefore a bit expensive, otherwise a very good introduction to the topic!
It was very inspiring, competent and comprehensible.
