About this class

From witch pond to funeral pyre

The dark Middle Ages and the early modern period have also left their bloody marks on the free imperial city of Tremonia - the torture sites lay outside the walls of the city and in front of the West Gate were burned, razed and hanged. In cases of treason, the sentences were carried out on the old market and the onlookers came together. The first 'witch' in the county of Dortmund was burned to death in 1581: Anna Cöster pleaded guilty to causing the death of a child through magic. The executioner will throw them on the water. Will it pass the water test?

Come along and experience 'Master Hermann' doing his gruesome craft. If you feel like it, you can apply as an executioner or take part in the 'judgment of God! '

What you’ll do in the class

We meet on the square on the corner of Bornstraße/Schwanenwall near the Fritz Henssler House and go through town with the executioner to the churchyard at the Provosteikirche.
