About this class
For a long time, rum was a spirit that actually had no particular reputation. At most for mixing, or as the local rum that grandma used to flavor her pastries. In fact, this category of spirits includes a wide range of different production methods, regional specialities and outstanding craftsmanship. The main regions of today's rum production in Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean and in particular the islands of the Caribbean Sea have an incredible variety of tastes to offer.
Dive into the world of these fine spirits made from sugar cane with us and learn more about different styles of rum and the influence that the history of individual islands has on their rum. Discover terms such as Overproof, Sippin' Rum, or Rhum Agricole and find out what is behind terms such as Añejo, Gran Reserva, or VSOP in relation to rum. We show them how rum can be tasted and judged and how you can filter out your favorite rum style from the range of many tastes. We are also approaching the topic of “rum in cocktails” and showing that there is more to Cuba Libre than cheap sugar cane schnapps, which must be covered with cola.
