About this experience
There is a sealed box in the attic of an old town house — in it a weathered letter, a rough map and a promise: “Whoever recognizes the signs will find what was once hidden in a storm.” Kiel was a port, a Hanseatic city — and once a notorious retreat for pirates. The city was even kicked out of the Hanseatic League because it offered them protection. Anyone who knows that sees Kiel differently. And that is exactly what this is about.
The route takes you through a city that doesn't willingly reveal its secrets. From a former fleet base to secret viewpoints and encrypted numbers to symbols on old buildings — every station has its own character. From the Botanic Garden, you solve a telescope puzzle with a view across the fjord. There is a secret code waiting on the steps of the Kunsthalle that most passers-by have never noticed. And at Kleiner Kiel, all lines run towards a single number — which decides who finds the sunken treasure.
We developed this tour ourselves: We traveled the route, chose the locations, wrote the story and designed the puzzles directly on site — tailored to what you really see, find and experience there. No AI, no generic template. Each of our tours is created this way, and it shows.
The puzzles cover an unusually wide range: logic tasks, nautical codes, waypoints through the castle gardens and even a musical message at the opera house that you have to hear and read. Sometimes you need intuition, sometimes accuracy, sometimes just the courage to look more closely than anyone else. Tricky enough for anyone who loves escape rooms — accessible enough for anyone who's never done it before.
The start and finish are centrally located in Kiel, easily accessible by bus and train. The tour ends at Kleiner Kiel — with the resolution that has built up the entire route and opportunities for a joint end right nearby.

The app opens directly in the browser, shows the first clue — and the treasure hunt begins. From station to station, you work your way through Kiel: solve puzzles, decipher codes, find out the next location. From a telescope puzzle with a fjord view to the secret code at the Kunsthalle to the final showdown at Kleiner Kiel, the excitement increases with every stop.
The tour can be played solo, in pairs or in a group — and anyone who likes can compete against each other in competition mode. The duration depends on the pace: If you puzzle quickly, you'll be done in about 1.5 to 2 hours. If you want to enjoy the city on the go, you need more time — and that is highly recommended.
In case of bad weather, the appointment can be rescheduled free of charge, at no extra charge.
Who is it suitable for
This tour is for anyone who wants to experience Kiel not as a transit station but as a real city — with a story that surprises. Ideal for couples, groups of friends, families and anyone looking for more than just a stroll along the fjord. Just as playable solo.
No previous knowledge, no sporting requirements. The puzzles — logic, codes, music, navigation — address so many different strengths that every person in the group provides the decisive clue somewhere. Escape room experience is neither necessary nor an advantage.
Anyone who is at home in Kiel will get to know places that have been overlooked for years. After this tour, anyone who is in the city for the first time will understand why Kiel is more than Kiel Week and Fjord.
