Weingut Schönhals, which Hanneke Schönhals took over from her father and organic pioneer Eugen in 2018, has been working consistently ecologically for over 30 years. Hanneke focuses on the development of biodynamic management, adaptation to the challenges of climate change and a clear focus on quality. Her passion for artisanal wines is becoming more and more apparent.
Weingut Schönhals is a member of the Demeter Association and works according to its biodynamic guidelines.
Our vineyards are located in the heart of Rheinhessen, the largest German wine-growing region. The region was still the one around 30 million years ago. This created calcareous soil layers, which shape our wines and, thanks to the fertile loess soil, have a particularly positive effect on the formation of aromas.
The liveliness of Schönhals wines starts in the vineyard. The greatest attention is paid to soil and its diverse life, because through organic management, we build up valuable humus, increase water retention capacity and promote nutrient balance. In this natural balance, our vines can develop healthily in a wide variety of flora and fauna.
