Get to know Graf Adelmann
At Schaubeck Castle, we benefit from more than 700 years of experience in winegrowing. This long tradition (first documented mention in 1297) is the basis, but of course we are continuing to develop and have done pioneering work time and time again. Thanks to the commitment of Michael Graf Adelmann, our best red wines have been aging in barriques since 1981 — a time when a shade of wood in wine was still considered a gross mistake in Germany. This was followed by targeted thinning of grapes, electronic fermentation temperature control, whole grape pressing and finally the first cuvée in 1989. These are all ideas and techniques that are now considered standard in many places and are about to become a tradition. Until a few years ago, they were rejected or were unknown - at least in Germany. The estate has been owned by Counts Adelmann since 1914. At that time, wine had been grown in the vineyards for almost 1000 years.
