The wonderful world of juniper spirits is currently experiencing a boom like hardly any other category. Unfortunately, this gets a bit confusing, as an unbelievable number of new types of gin are currently appearing on the market. During this tasting, we will reflect on the roots of the spirit and look at the development of historical gin styles up to the present day. The topics of this evening range from the origins in the Netherlands, to the first gin boom in England, the decline of the category to the renaissance that gin is experiencing today.
Learn something about the difference between Old Tom, Dry and London Dry Gin. Take a look behind the recipes and ingredients that make one or the other gin unique. Taste the variety of flavors that make gin the perfect spirit for refreshing cocktails. Find out which tonic goes best with your favorite gin.
What you’ll do in the class
- The tasting takes place at the sophisticated Café Leopold in MQ Vienna
- Our gin expert will guide you through the tasting, explain the differences in the design of the individual products, tell you about the history and stories of gin culture and is available to answer your questions
- You will learn the right tasting techniques to be able to identify and name the different flavor components in gin.
- Our expert gives instructions on how to choose the right tonic for the individual types of gin.
- The tasting includes eight samples of different types of gin and gives you the opportunity to taste the differences.

- 1 Genever
- 1 Old Tom gin
- 1 dry gin
- 1 London Dry Gin from England
- 1 London Dry Gin from German-speaking countries
- 1 modern gin from overseas
- 1 modern gin from Austria
- 1 modern gin from Spain, France, or the Mediterranean region
