What can you expect from our cutlery course in Berlin?
In our cutlery course in Berlin, you have the unique opportunity to forge your own knife. Our compact course is designed as an intensive course and teaches the essential forging techniques required to produce a high-quality knife.
Our course starts with an exercise session in which you learn the basics of knife forging with soft structural steel. This part lasts one hour and is used to train the most important skills. You will then dedicate yourself to the actual knife blank. You can choose whether you want to forge an outdoor knife or a small kitchen knife out of tool steel. The maximum blade length is 12 cm.
For the outdoor knife, you have the option of wrapping the handle with a leather strap or Cordura (both available from us). Prefabricated Japanese handles are available for the kitchen knives. During the entire course, you will receive tips and tricks from an experienced cutler.

How does this activity work?
After the welcome and a safety briefing, the course instructor demonstrates the basic techniques of knife forging. Each participant is then given a piece of flat iron to do their first forging exercises.
Then you proceed directly with the tool steel (ball bearing steel) and you forge your knife blank under professional guidance.
Cooling is followed by rough grinding, then hardening and sharpening.

Born in Neustrelitz in 1977, I came to Hanover as a result of the search for a training place. In 1999, I was seized by metal fever, creating sculptures out of scrap metal. In 2004 I discovered the fascination of forging and have been passionately sharing it with my guests ever since.
