Get to know Wein am Schloss
It all began in the cradle of wine, Bordeaux. The long-planned trip to Saint Émilion, which was postponed several times in view of family responsibilities — finally started in 2007, got the ball rolling, which has continued to pick up steam ever since.
I knew before that wine tastes delicious in its many variations. In the area filled with wine culture, there were now many impressions from the on-site tasting and the knowledgeable guided tours of winegrowing and winemaking. And I wanted to learn a lot more about the wonderful world of wine, preferably in an organized and professional way.
While looking for a suitable training institution in the wine sector, I came across the London-based WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust), a still little-known wine education institute in Germany but internationally leading wine education institute. In the meantime, I have completed the multi-level training there and completed the — state-recognized — WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits. Sommelier training is an equivalent in Germany.
My decision grew out of my strong interest, which was further promoted with intensive training and many experiences, to make a career out of it. After extensive preparation, I dared to take the step into self-employment. In August 2009, I opened a small, cozy wine shop in the immediate vicinity of the Drostenhof in Münster-Wolbeck — popularly known as the castle.
With that, “Wein am Schloss” was born. However, wine shops alone shouldn't stop there. From the outset, my goal was also to hold demanding wine-related events.
With Gerlinde Niedick, Carolyn Lucas, Marlies Seier and Jörg Zielske in particular, I have gained people with whom this requirement can be implemented in full quality.
With Marlis Seier, I conduct moderated boat tastings on the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
Carolyn Lucas is an excellently qualified wine academic who leads wine training courses in my wine shop at a high professional level. Ms. Lucas is also a native English speaker.
Jörg Zielske, a highly ambitious young winemaker, international wine tester, business economist and author, provides you with a comprehensive look at the process of creating the finished wine product with his very unusual theoretical and practical knowledge of wine. Mr. Zielske speaks perfect Spanish and is also an excellent connoisseur of Spanish specialties and Andalusian culture.
In collaboration with chansonnière Gerlinde Niedick, who has made a name for herself through many successful public and private appearances over the 12 years of her work, I offer a combination of moderated wine tasting and a sophisticated song revue under the title “Wine and Chanson.”
