My name is Eddi Blume. I studied art and educational science — but I didn't come to ceramics through a straightforward career plan, but rather out of inner necessity. I wanted to give up my traditional office job. The desire for manual, artistic and direct work finally led me to sound.
What still fascinates me about pottery today is its radical openness: clay is flexible, changeable, fault-tolerant and honest at the same time. It reacts to every move, every decision — and never fails to surprise. I find the process of transformation particularly exciting: from moist material to drying to firing and glazing. Each phase creates new qualities that can never be fully controlled. That is precisely the appeal for me.
My mission is to provide people with a space where they can have this experience for themselves. I enjoy working with very different people, accompanying them in their individual pottery process and observing how working with clay opens up new perspectives, abilities and forms of expression. It is not about perfection, but about consciously experiencing a creative process.
I work in several rooms in Berlin:
a joint studio in Prenzlauer Berg and a shop workshop in Kreuzberg. My workshops are currently taking place in Kreuzberg.
The workshop is functional and open at the same time — a place that invites you to work, try things out and relax. It is equipped with everything you need to work with clay: work surfaces, tools, firing facilities and glazes.
Depending on the format, the location offers space for smaller groups (up to max. 12 people), so that a concentrated atmosphere is created and I can respond individually to the participants. It is important to me that no one “sinks” but has enough space for questions, experiments and personal support.
My courses are characterized primarily by proximity, openness and process support. I don't teach rigid recipes, but show various techniques and approaches that participants can develop for themselves.
Thanks to my educational training and many years of workshop experience — including at schools — I am used to accompanying very different ways of learning and working. Beginners are just as welcome as people with previous experience. Mistakes are expressly included and are understood as part of the learning process.
What is particularly important to me is an atmosphere in which questions are allowed, curiosity is encouraged and the creative process is central — not the perfect end product.
I offer private and team events, as well as mobile workshops, for example for children's birthday parties or school projects.
What makes these formats special is the combination of craftsmanship and joint experience. Pottery slows down, demands attention and quickly creates a common basis — regardless of age, religion, origin, previous knowledge or professional background.
My events are unique for groups because they don't focus on pure entertainment, but on real participation. The participants work with their hands, experience a real process and take away not only an object but also an experience. Especially for teams or private groups, this creates a space in which exchange, collaboration and creativity take place naturally.
