About this class
A day full of Cologne's wine history and discoveries from wine shops, concept stores, wine bars and wine restaurants
The Romans brought wine to Cologne over 2000 years ago. In the Middle Ages, wine was essential to make unclean water drinkable - vines were planted everywhere within Cologne's city walls to ensure daily hydration. Even later when stacking law came into existence and goods that crossed the Cologne river route and had to be stored here for sale for three days, the wine was very important and helped the people of Cologne, among others, to make a lot of money.
An enjoyable and exciting day on wine in Cologne:
I would like to take you through my great city to the most beautiful wine locations I know. Depending on your taste and time, I can customize the program individually. The regular program always includes the following:
- Visit to the wine museum and wine tasting in the vineyards on their museum roof: Here you will learn super exciting things from winemaker Lucas about Cologne's wine (building) history, viticulture and winemaking. Tasting of 2 to 3 wines, bread and olive oil. Depending on the day of the week, other wines from winemakers who are currently visiting can be tasted here. Then browse in peace and quiet through the range of over 3,000 wines.
- Visiting friends from the wine world. For example, a concept store owned by an Italian furniture restorer and wine importer with interior design, antiques and decoration. A wonderful place to taste premium wines from Friuli. Tasting of three (sparkling) wines, cheese, olives, breadsticks, bread
- Wine tasting with at least three wines with me in a beautiful restaurant in an elegant atmosphere, plus plenty of antipasto, tarte flambée and water
- Trips to locations
- The meeting point is at 12:00 (or later) at the Cologne wine depot, and you can end the evening as long as you like.
