About this class
In this weaving course, you will learn how to weave a 4-shaft loom step by step and create your own handwoven patterns. Inspired by textile artists such as Anni Albers and Sheila Hicks, the course combines traditional crafts with the free, experimental language of contemporary art. The course is led by Julia and Miriam, the founders of Studio JUMI — a professionally equipped web studio in the heart of Berlin-Wedding.
What you’ll do in the class
We start with a short joint introduction to weaving and then go straight into practice. In the first half of the course, we will familiarise you one-on-one with the rhythm of the loom and show you how to translate your ideas - about color, material and structure - into small handwoven sketches. After a short coffee break, it's time to work on the second sketch, depending on your needs and pace. At the end of the course, all participants take their woven designs home.
Who is the class suitable for?
This course is suitable for all levels. Whether with or without previous knowledge, the small number of groups allows us to pick you up individually.
