Why not look in the mirror and paint a self-portrait with your own eyes?
Since the Renaissance, self-portraits have been considered an important milestone for artists — hardly any painter has done without them. They are an expression of self-confidence.
From Rembrandt to Vincent van Gogh — they all captured their feelings and thoughts in the mirror. A self-portrait is a powerful way to preserve one's own existence and memory.
Whether viewed in a mirror or painted from memory, a self-portrait remains unique: the attempt to represent a self that you can never fully grasp.
Drawing the memories and feelings that arise when looking at another face is also an extremely meaningful activity. Whether you look in the mirror or rely on your own memory, it is an attempt to paint yourself or someone else that you can never fully grasp. This act alone remains unforgettable.
How does this activity work?
In this course, we mainly work with acrylic, but we will also try out different materials. From pastel crayons to charcoal, we can combine different techniques. I will also show you various methods for using acrylic paint creatively.
The participants work on a 30x40 cm canvas with acrylic paints, pastel crayons and other materials such as colored pencils. Together, they discuss the desired atmosphere as well as references from various old masters. They then paint by either looking at the mirrors available here or looking at each other's faces.
Me as a course instructor- As such, I will give you valuable technical advice on how to successfully implement portrait painting.
Who should definitely take part?
Anyone interested in portrait or figure painting is welcome. Friends or couples who would like to create a nice memory are also welcome!
