About this class

Rethinking porcelain mugs — in this two-day creative workshop in Düsseldorf, you create your own plaster mold and pour two individual porcelain mugs out of it.

The 2-day workshop comprises a total of approx. 9 hours, spread over two days.
On the first day, you will make your own plaster mold under my guidance.
On the second day, you finish the mold, then pour two individual porcelain cups and prepare them for drying.

Your pieces dry for about 1-2 weeks and are then fired.

You then have two options:

Optionally, you can take part in a separate glazing workshop and glaze your cups yourself.

Alternatively, we can do the glazing for you. In this case, your items will be ready for collection after approx. 4-5 weeks or can be sent for shipping costs.

What you’ll do in the class

Porcelain is the diva among ceramic materials — sophisticated, sensitive and beautiful.
Take part in a 2-day workshop and discover the special charm of this material.

On the first day, you will make your own plaster mold under my guidance. To do this, we first develop a small sketch — no previous drawing experience required — or you already have a mug idea, for example as a model or photo.
We will then discuss the procedure and the required working materials together. When everything is clear, let's start sawing.

On the second day, you finish your mold: We saw, file and sand — it also gets a bit dusty. Then pour two individual porcelain cups and prepare them for drying.
I will explain to you step by step how the porcelain mass is stirred, how the cups are demoulded and how the plaster mold is then correctly reassembled.

Don't worry: We carry out all work steps together, no one is left alone. No previous experience is required, you should just trust yourself to work with a saw and hammer.

In the workshop, you make a reusable plaster mold (up to approx. 100 casts possible) and use it to make two porcelain cups.
All manufactured pieces are food safe.

By booking, you secure two consecutive workshop dates.
