About this class
In the portrait photography workshop: it gets really exciting experimentally: we have a patient and attractive model, we have various continuous lights (ring light, LED spotlight in a large softbox, a construction spotlight if necessary), we have all kinds of films and fabrics, we have a “wind machine”... and we have focal lengths of 24 mm to 200 mm. We will combine all of this in a variety of ways and vary it into really great photos. Because: this is how portrait photography is really fun and creates special pictures.
Taking pictures with continuous light is relatively easy from a technical point of view and gives us quite a lot of movement and design options. After a short introduction to portrait photography, we look at the materials and see what we can do with them. We build small sets and take pictures of our model one by one. With different viewing angles, focal lengths, temperaments... all sorts of different photos are sure to be created. Learning from each other and advising and trying things out together is allowed 🙂
What you’ll do in the class
For this workshop, too, you should be familiar with how to operate your camera and with the interplay of aperture, shutter speed and sensitivity (if necessary, simply learn to take pictures at the workshop beforehand! with). In the Portrait Photography: Experimental workshop, we want to explore the possibilities of light sources, “accessories” and models in a playful and creative way. Communication with the model will of course also play a role again. Because: the really good photos are always the result of teamwork.
With a maximum of six participants, everyone has enough time to take pictures... and vice versa, I always have enough time to be able to answer individual questions as well. — An attractive and patient (and experienced in dealing with photographers) model is of course there. The photo above was taken with Lorena; I show some more sample pictures in my Behance profile. And with a model release (costs 49 euros extra), the photos can also be used for the portfolio on your own website afterwards.
Considerations and some sample photos from preparation shoots for this workshop can be found here: Behind the Scenes.
Who is the class suitable for?
“Portrait photography: experimental” is a great opportunity for photographers who already have experience with portrait photography... and now want to make great progress.
